According to the chronicles, on the eve of the Battle of Kulikovo, which took place on September 8, 1330, the Don Icon of the Mother of God was presented by the ancestors of the Don Cossacks to Grand Duke Dmitry Ivanovich. According to tradition, in front of the icon they pray for the protection of the Motherland, for peace and tranquility, so that there is no war, for protection from enemies.
